SELLY PARK GIRLS' SCHOOL HAS BEEN RE/ACCREDITED THE PRESTIGIOUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS AWARD
The International School Award
Selly Park has held the International School Award for 15 years, successfully re-applying every 3 years. Selly Park has link schools in Countries all over the world, including Ghana, Zimbabwe, India, Pakistan, Sri-Lanka, Russia, Bulgaria, Spain, France, and South Africa.
The International School Award is a badge of honour for schools that do outstanding work in international education, such as through links with partner school overseas. The International School Award is a great chance for schools to demonstrate the important work they're doing to bring the world into their classrooms. Adding an international dimension to children's education ensures that they are truly global citizens and helps prepare them for successful future careers in an increasingly global economy. Successful schools must be able to evidence that Global Learning is truly embedded within the curriculum and that the school has had links with global partners around the world for at least three years.
International Council
Selly Park has a student International Council that meet weekly working on local, national, and international projects. The International Council have led on dozens of projects and campaigns and have recently achieved the “Fair Aware award” (Fair Trade Schools), and the “Green flag award” (ECO schools). The International Council are currently working on a Gender Equality Project with schools from Ghana and Zimbabwe. The project will help young people demonstrate enhanced knowledge, skills and understanding of global issues, and be able to contribute responsibly to society both locally and globally.
Objectives of the project:
1. Citizenship to understand the importance of equal rights, a feeling of belonging and of developing the skills to bring positive change
2. Critical thinking to consider different perspectives and develop understanding of the causes and solutions to the challenge of gender inequality in different contexts
3. Creativity and imagination to consider the multiple causes and solutions to world hunger in different contexts.
This is our second project with our African partners, last year we collaborated on our “Zero Hunger Garden” Project. The project was highlighted in the British Council’s example case studies guide for best practice and celebrated in Tide Global’s Elephant Times.
Global Passports
Every pupil in Selly Park has been issued a global passport. Global passports encourage students to engage with the wider world. They also improve students knowledge and understanding of the world around them as well as encouraging them to become global citizens that contribute to their community. Their global passports also enable all students to gain recognition for their contributions as citizens. As well as these global passports help establish a meaningful & inclusive approach to global citizenship through all 5 years at Selly Park.
